Course Aims

We will consider how a strong values base is the essential ingredient in an effective service. The workshop will look at experiences of people with learning disabilities and ask the participant to reflect upon their own experiences and practices. We will look at methods of working and the influence of society and the media in how we define values and treat other people.

Designed for

The workshop is designed for anyone working with people with learning disabilities but is particularly beneficial to those with a strong hands-on role, from voluntary, public or private sector service provision.

After the course participants should be able to:

  • Understand some of the issues faced by people with a learning disability
  • Use their own experiences to help develop better services
  • Look at how society and the media impact upon how we value people
  • Look at your role and the difference you can make
  • Consider the true meaning of values and use it to evaluate individual practice
