Systems Advocacy Service
The Systems Advocacy Service operates in Northeast Wales. It offers adults who have a learning disability and live in Denbighshire, Flintshire and Wrexham advocacy support on a one-to-one basis. Advocacy support is free to the person using the service and is confidential.
The service has four advocacy officers who are based in each of the counties and work directly with clients to seek a resolution to a problem or to help clients make decisions which are right for them.
Some of the work carried out is time limited or case advocacy. This means that an advocacy officer is involved until the client is happy that a resolution has been found to a difficulty that they have been experiencing. It is the advocacy officers aim to ensure that the outcome is right for the client and is what they really want and not what others may think they want.
Other work is more long term and clients have the support of the advocacy officer on an ongoing basis.
A lot of the work done is to make sure that people are happy with the services they are receiving from the local authority. However many other issues are dealt with such as family issues and legal and money matters.
