Llanfrechfa Grange

Tony Pape has provided independent advocacy at Llanfrechfa Grange hospital for almost six years.

A range of services has been provided during this time, including individual representation, relating to any human rights issues; collective representation pertaining to issues of quality, i.e. more access to the local community; access to day care facilities and development of more person centred approaches to practice.

The advocacy service has also provided training relating to advocacy issues, communication and person centred planning.

Involvement in the hospital closure project is ongoing as well as input in to clinical governance issues and any forum pertaining to quality issues.

Tony has successfully supported a number of people to move to alternative accommodation and is currently providing support to people living at the hospital and their staff in relation to transition planning.

Tony has also recently been involved in setting up and developing a service user panel for Gwent, in partnership with a psychologist as part of the public and patient involvement initiative.

More recently Tony has undertaken a person centred planning project for Monmouthshire social services for two days a week.

The accent for advocacy at Llanfrechfa Grange is now on transition planning and safeguarding the welfare of the people who continue to live there.
