This workshop responds to questions frequently posed by professionals when engaging with parents and carers of children and young people with disabilities, including issues around communication, understanding and how we can work better together to get real change.

Course Aims
Throughout the workshop we will be addressing the following:
- Why is this parent difficult to work with?
- Where do I begin to communicate with some parents?
- How can I work successfully with parents and carers to plan inclusively with and for children or young people with complex support needs?
Designed for
This workshop is designed for people working with parents and carers of disabled children and adults around a Person Centred Planning approach.
After the course participants should be able to:
- Understand the importance of WELCOME
- Be aware of labelling and reframing: Setting the tone, attitudes and prejudices
- Encourage new insights about children's behaviour using stories such as Circles of Support, The Intentional Building of Relationships and Solution Circles
- Realise the importance of Teams in developing plans and inclusive practice
